What is an Emotional
Support Animal ESA?

An Emotional Support Animal is a companion animal that provides emotional comfort and support to individuals with a diagnosed mental health condition.

What´ s the difference?

It is important to clarify that an Emotional Support Animal is NOT a service animal under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which requires specific training to perform tasks directly related to a disability.

Service
Animal:

A service animal is a dog trained to perform specific tasks that assist a person with a physical or mental disability—such as guiding someone who is visually impaired, alerting to sounds, or assisting with mobility.

Psychiatric
Service Animal:

A psychiatric service animal is a type of service dog trained to support individuals with mental health conditions. They perform specific tasks like interrupting panic attacks, reminding their handler to take medication, or creating space in overwhelming environments.

What are the benefits of an E.S.A prescription?

As part of your treatment plan, you can be prescribed an Emotional Support Animal (ESA) to assist in alleviating symptoms related to your mental health condition(s).

MEET THE TEAM:

Welcome!

I’m Juseth Giron,LCSW a licensed and board-certified psychotherapist dedicated to serving individuals throughout the state of Nevada. I am passionate about helping people feel supported, understood, and less alone on their journey toward mental well-being.

At the heart of our work together is Dolly, my beloved 2-year-old Goldendoodle and Emotional Support Animal (ESA). Dolly represents the very best of comfort, connection, and unconditional support. Together, we believe that healing is not just about Therapy—it’s also about having the right companion by your side.

UNITED STATES AND NEVADA LAWS:

Under the Fair Housing Act (FHA), which is enforced by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), individuals with disabilities have the right to request reasonable accommodation for an ESA in housing that otherwise has a no-pet policy.

This law states that housing providers must make reasonable accommodations unless doing so would impose an undue financial or administrative burden or fundamental alteration to the nature of the housing.
